Never souled out - Celebrating 25 years of yoga LUV
When you think of running a yoga business, you think of ease, lazy days, and only having to show up to teach and socialize. There really isn’t anything more to it? Right?
As much as I would love to tell you that our days over the past 25 years were nap-filled excursions and all-day meditation-thons, I have to tell you that in the world of yoga, it isn’t all sunshine and sparkles. And when you run a yoga studio, the sparkles outweigh the mud, but the mud still happens. That’s why the yogis use a word: guru. A guru removes the icky, sticky goo of darkness through illumination and light. And that is what we used to work through the mud of existence. A guru can be a person or an experience.
For us, our guru was both. Students, humans, and experiences alike gave us many rays of light to keep shining bright from the inside out!
This week we received an email:
“How did you two do this for this long, together as a couple and with all the rage in the world?"
Our response: “We focused on what mattered to us inwardly. We weren’t looking outside for answers; we looked in for them. And when we did that, we fell into lockstep with each other and with life. These past 25 years have been nothing short of magical —for our studio, our relationships, and our teachings.
If there is anything we can share that may be helpful to you, it’s this: the practice of all 8 limbs of yoga helps in all circumstances, no matter how heavy and burdensome they are. Yoga lifted us when we were down, and it reminded us of the world’s innate goodness, even when circumstances seemed to say otherwise. Yoga pulls you up and lifts you, and this isn’t us just chatting it up; this is exactly what yoga did and continues to do for us".
Vintage CPY - how a 1960's Lambretta scooter changed our lives
Remember for our 11th, 12th, and 13th anniversaries of CPY we used Calvin's beloved scooter as our picture? We worked together and had a blast bringing pieces of the vintage CPY logos and anniversary designs back to life.

Seriously, the scooter has an inner light.
The scooter (for those who like to name their vehicles- her name is Gabby) was our sanctuary, especially during those years! She took us to many beautiful sunsets, meditations, chats, and nights of working through everything, from sadness to joy. She listened with her engine purring loudly beneath us; I held tight to Calvin, our helmets bouncing against each other, and we would crack up with laughter; she always made the mood bright.
The scooter is a symbol of joy, freedom, and peace for us.

In 2001, when we opened the studio
and tied the knot, we went on a fantastic honeymoon, and in the UK there was a store called Lambretta. That is Calvin's favorite scooter because it was original; they never souled out their brand, and they are still keeping the old tradition of scooter mania alive, and we love it!. It's a little like CPY; when the scooter industry wanted them to change, they stayed true to themselves, and to this day you can still buy a kickin’ Lambretta! - but you have to go across the pond to get one or ask Calvin to sell one of his. :) … and why we still have more than one is partially my fault. When I was 17, I gave him all my savings so he could get the one he wanted (the one we still ride today), and he had to buy all 10 scooters that guy was selling.
Now that is True Love. LOL
